6 affordable lunch spots in Rome

When in Rome, one would expect an amazing food experience, right? Because it is Italy and Italian food is one of the most legendary in the world?!

Well, I had the same thought and after exploring Rome and its lunch spots I can definitely recommend these 6 places. The places are listed in no particular order.

Below you will find 3 pizza, 2 pasta and one suppli places.

  1. Pizza e Mozzarella

Something for lovers of delicious and fresh pizza - a place not too far from the Trevi Fountain.

  • What they serve: Roman-style pizzas by weight

  • Location: Via del Piè di Marmo, 32, 00186 Roma

  • Google rating: 4.8/5 (in June 2024)

  • What I tried: Pizza with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella and pizza with mushrooms

  • Can you eat on site?: Yes, there are a few tables - a small but lovely place

  • Service: Friendly and calm :)

  • Price: 2 € / 100 g

  • Overall conclusion: The pizzas I ate are in the top 3 of my personal pizza rankings. This is a must if you are in Rome and wandering around the old town.

  • Ratings: Food: 4.9/5 / Service: 5/5 / Location: 5/5

2. Supplì Roma

Something local to try - Rome's famous street food - suppli.

  • What they serve: Supplis (croquettes filled with rice and cheese) and pizzas by weight

  • Location: Via di S. Francesco a Ripa, 137, 00153 Roma

  • Google rating: 4.7/5 (in June 2024)

  • What I tried: A simple suppli with black pepper and another suppli with black pepper and lemon (I preferred it with lemon)

  • Can you eat at the place?: No, there are no tables/chairs, but many people, including us, ate on the sidewalk in front of the place.

  • Service: Friendly, but you have to order quickly, time is money and the queue is long.. :D

  • Price: 1 suppli ~ 2 €

  • Overall conclusion: Huhh guys, there are no words to describe how delicious these dishes were! This is the most recommended suppli place in Rome for a reason! You have to try their suppli when in Rome!

  • Ratings: Food: 5/5 / Service: 4.5/5 / Location: 4/5

3. Pastificio Guerra

Affordable, delicious fresh pasta near the Spanish Steps. The shop is 100+ years old, making it one of the oldest in town.

  • What they serve: Fresh Pasta - Every day they have one vegetarian dish and one pasta with meat

  • Location: V. della Croce, 8, 00187 Rome

  • Google rating: 4.2/5 (in June 2024)

  • What I tried: Mushroom tagliatelle (full of flavors, extremely tasty pasta)

  • Can you eat at the place?: Yes, you can stand by the shelves with special places to place your plate, or outside by the door.

  • Service: Friendly, polite and modest

  • Price: 4.5 € / per dish

  • Overall conclusion: Such a delicious meal. Well, I want my pasta to be as delicious as it is there every time I eat it. By the way, there is a huge queue during the day, but we went an hour before closing and there were only a few people and no queue (in short, there may be a chance that the food is already sold out by the evening, especially in high season).

  • Ratings: Food: 5/5 / Service: 5/5 / Location: 5/5

4. Trapizzino

A fun change to the usual pizza - a pizza pocket! They have many locations in Rome, but not quite in the heart of the old town.

  • What they serve: Fresh pizza pockets and supplis.

  • Location: Via Giovanni Branca, 88, 00153 Rome (Trapizzino | Testaccio)

  • Google rating: 4.6/5 (in June 2024)

  • What I tried: “Parmigiana” containing eggplant, parmesan, tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella.

  • Can you eat at the place?: Yes, there are some tables and chairs inside to eat.

  • Service: Friendly and helpful - the server introduced the options they have without meat and the food was ready very quickly.

  • Price: 5 € (for the Parmigiana)

  • Overall conclusion: A delicious change from the usual pizza, definitely worth trying in Rome. Besides, it claims to be similar to pizza, but it sure doesn't taste like pizza. For example, the option I chose was literal Parmigiana (a pasta dish, just without the pasta) inside foccacia bread. So give it a try - it's a delightful taste journey.

5. Pastasciutta

A pasta paradise near the Vatican with a long queue. They actually have another location near Piazza del Popolo as well. The line can be long, but it moves quickly. And after you order, they give you a device that vibrates when your order is ready - so convenient.

  • Location: Via delle Grazie, 5, 00193 Rome

  • Can you eat at the place?: Yes, there are some tables and chairs for eating, and many people sit outside on the sidewalk and eat there.

  • Service: Efficient and attentive.

  • Overall conclusion: Such good pasta that is made to order. I really enjoyed it and will definitely visit again.

  • Ratings: Food: 4.8/5 / Service: 4.5/5 / Location: 5/5

6. Pizza Florida

A pizza place near the Victor Emmanuel II monument. The place seems a bit chaotic, but actually everything runs smoothly. They have a huge selection of pizzas and if something is sold out, a new pizza arrives immediately.

  • What they serve: A wide selection of pizzas sold by weight.

  • Location: 00186, Via Florida, 25, 00186 Rome

  • Service: Friendly and fast.

  • Price: ~1.5-2 € / 100 g

  • Ratings: Food: 4.8/5 / Service: 4.8/5 / Location: 5/5
